Since 1913 IVEX Specialty Paper, LLC has been nestled along the banks of the Illinois River in Peoria Illinois. The mill was originally the Illinois Paper Company, built in 1912 by Judson M. Bemis, an Illinois farmer. Manufacturing began in 1913. The plant was built with a paper mill and a small bag factory to produce white coated flour sack paper and consumer size flour bags. In 2005, the mill began focusing on specialized service, allowing the customer the freedom to consider us part of their organization for their paper and specialty paper needs.

Over the years, IVEX has been an industry leader in machine crepe papers used in multi-wall bags, in the production of silicone-coated base paper for the carpet industry and many other applications. The mill has also been utilizing recycled paper as a main fiber source long before the “green movement”. In fact, since it is a non-integrated mill, the pulp source can be changed per customer specs to meet desired levels of post-consumer, alternative fibers and more.

In February 2020, the mill began efforts on an exciting rebuild of the #2 Paper Machine in order to further improve capabilities and product offerings.
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Bradley University (OLLI) is an organization of over 1000 Peoria-area residents, from age 50 to 98, who want to stay vital and active as they reach and enjoy retirement. One way to do that is to keep learning, so they participate in the many programs of OLLI that include educational travel, classes, lectures, cinema events, and study groups.
On Monday, February 29th, Bradley’s OLLI group came out to our New Indy Ivex Specialty Paper mill in Peoria, IL. Larry Rohman, Ivex’s Plant Engineer, is actually a Bradley University Alumni and has been with us at Ivex for over 30 years! Larry began the tour in the Beater Room where the recycled paper is mixed with tons of water and ended at the end of the paper machine, where the paper was being rolled up into large rolls. These Bradley Alums were amazed and had plenty of questions to grill Larry throughout and after the tour, and he was happy to answer every last one! Paper production is a fascinating industry, and the perfect place for these alums to expand their knowledge. We enjoyed having Bradley’s OLLI group join us, and we hope they come back to see us next year!
